A look at the marketing that surrounds us.

Movie Monday: Alice in Wonderland

Posted by Rosepixie on January 18, 2010

These are posters for the upcoming version of Alice in Wonderland.

These three go together.

There is also a set of character posters.

I think that the triple-poster, or any one part of it, is far more interesting than the portrait posters.  It gives a much better idea of what the movie is.  While you do get the impression from some of the portraits that the movie will be odd, they don’t tell you very much.  They convey surprisingly little about the characters they portray.

I find the White Queen poster particularly disappointing.  It’s downright boring!  And she’s the character who famously said “sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”  I don’t buy it.  She looks way too boring!  And way too buttoned up to be the queen who is losing hair pins and shawls throughout the book!  She just looks like any generic character from a period piece.

Still, the triple poster promises craziness and fun.  Hopefully the portrait posters were just done because portrait posters seem to be very much in vogue right now, despite the fact that they aren’t especially great marketing pieces most of the time.
